Snoball and the City of Salem are teaming up to turn the long-standing, regional winter dance event into something bigger: a life-saving, peer-to-peer awareness campaign. In 2025, the Snoball Youth Committee partnered with the City of Salem’s Opioids Prevention effort and launched “Stay Chill. Ditch the Street Pill ~ Dance at the Sno!”—a teen-focused push calling out the real dangers of fentanyl showing up in pills. This work has earned the committee an ILEAD Youth Leadership & Wellness Summit Impact Award (March 2026) . For Snoball 2026, the message updates for what local communities are seeing now—unknown counterfeit “Rx” pills bought online often through social media—with the new slogan: “Stay Chill. Ditch Random Pills.” Nationally, nearly half of teens don’t realize fentanyl is being used to make fake prescription pills, and the risk is invisible: you can’t see, smell, or taste it—the size of two small grains of salt can be enough to steal a future. The Drug Enforcement Agency warns 7 out of 10 street pills may contain a potentially deadly amount. Spread the word, look out for friends and family, and help normalize the healthy choice—because the right info, shared early, can help save lives
